VA Car Detailing, a local Ottawa/Gatineau business, needed to strengthen its brand identity and online presence since they've been active on social medias, but didn't have a website to their name. I was contracted to revamp their logo and business cards, and to design a modern website. This project aimed to enhance their professional image, improve customer engagement, and drive growth in a competitive market.

Empathizing to understand the needs of VA Car Detailing

Once I was contracted by the two co-owners of this local business, I planned a virtual meeting on Zoom with my client. From there, we learned a little bit about each other and I asked a list of open ended questions to dig for needs, objectives and current frustrations.

Competitive research (Benchmarking)

After discussing the project with the client, I realized he hadn’t fully envisioned his website’s design. This led me to conduct thorough competitive research and benchmarking, examining local auto detailing sites to identify essential features and design elements that would ensure his website’s success. My goal was to make his website stand out from the rest and look better than all of his competitors.


Here is a list of the websites I assessed, along with the key points I identified from each of them:

Brand Identity

VA Car Detailing wanted to focus on giving a luxe, professional and premium feel to their image. They already wanted a specific color palette which does exactly that. Like requested, I took their brand identity and applied it to two different logo concepts.

I decided to create two logo concepts to give my client the opportunity to choose the style he prefers. The first version has a simpler, fine-line look, while the second is bolder and more playful. Both designs maintain a clean and professional appearance. Later, the client chose the second concept.

From there, I designed a business card for my client, which will allow him to network confidently with potential clients and easily promote his business, his social media pages and his new website.

Userflow

With my client's brand identity fully revamped and research completed on key website elements, I began the website design process by creating a user flow outlining each page to be included. Due to a tight deadline, I proceeded without extensive user research at this stage of the design.

Prototyping

Feeling very inspired for this website, I jumped straight into creating a high-fidelity prototype on WordPress. The website was developed in close collaboration with the client through regular progress discussions, which made skipping the wireframing stage feel seamless and without impact on the project.

Last few iterations and approval for launch

Once I completed designing all of the pages, it was time for the client to validate everything before the final launch of the website. We met one last time to look through each page and element on the website and he was super happy and satisfied about the result. The next day, I finally launched the website.
